Every fall, the same thing happens. Hunting season opens, the camo comes out of storage, and the guys head for the hills. If you’ve spent past seasons at home waiting for the “we got one” text, this is your year to make other plans.
Call up your girlfriends, pack a bag, and head to Dutch John Resort for a deer widows weekend. Our Flaming Gorge cabins are close to the Green River and the canyon views, and dinner is right on site. It’s a simple, relaxing getaway for the ladies left at home.
Why Flaming Gorge Is the Perfect Girls Weekend Getaway in Utah
Fall is one of the best times of year to visit Flaming Gorge. The summer crowds are gone, the air is crisp, and the canyon feels quiet. The Green River runs through a canyon with walls over 500 feet tall, with no roads or ATV trails along its banks. All you hear is the water and the wind.
Your weekend can be as busy or as slow as you want:
- Take a scenic drive. Head north past Little Hole road around dusk to look for mule deer, antelope, elk, and wild horses. (Your deer sighting might beat his.)
- Visit Flaming Gorge Dam. Take a tour and see the reservoir from the overlooks.
- Explore the area. Visit Swett Ranch, the Ute Fire Tower, or one of the geological loop drives through Ashley National Forest.
- Stay in. Coffee on the porch, a fire in the evening, and nowhere you need to be.
